Welcome to the Internet, 1997
About
A nostalgic, interactive museum of the early web.
Welcome to the Internet, 1997 is an interactive time capsule of the 90s web. It opens with a dial-up boot sequence, then drops you into a Windows 95 style desktop where every icon opens a working mini-app from the era.
It is a working recreation rather than a screenshot: the desktop is alive, and every icon opens a small piece of the era you can actually use. The Experience page walks through each mini-app in detail.
The Windows 95 look is intentional, but the internals follow current accessibility and TypeScript practices.
The project is built with Next.js, React, and TypeScript, and is available in English and Polish.
